Note 1: The National Hurricane Center described Katrina as “an extraordinarily powerful and deadly hurricane that carved a wide swath of catastrophic damage and inflicted large loss of life.” This storm destroyed entire neighborhoods, took nearly 2,000 lives and forced hundreds of thousands of people to live as refugees as they relocated.  This storm was the most expensive natural disaster to ever affect the United States, with over $81 billion dollars in property damage alone.  This was not the only cost.  As transportation and oil distribution routes were impassable, many of the region’s industries (including oil production) were severely damaged. Though the Bush Administration had a $105 billion budget for reconstruction, this only covered a portion of the real economic costs.

    Hello my name is James and I am writing another in class blog for my ENG 101 class.  The chart the Professor  gave us is about "Anti-Islamic Hate Crime Incidents".  It give the number of crime from 1995 to 2008.  The number of crime went up dramatically within 2001, I think we all know the reason but if not it because of 9/11.  Many people at that time blame the Islamic people or Muslims for what happen that day.  It kind of funny how things change from 1995 to 2001 because before 2001 there was very very little crime, especially in 1998 because during that time there was the least amount of crime for the Islamic people.  Safe to say crime is slowing back down after 2006 and let just hope it stay that way.

Hi it me James and at the moment my instagram is acting up, but I'm looking at classes within a fellow classmate and photos the teacher posting and I must say they are nice.  In all honesty I don't see what if have to do with the assignment or the class topic, but still they are nice pics.

In class blog 5/12 Zeitoun

   Hello once again it is me James writing a class blog about Zeitoun and how i can use certain passages from the book into my final essay.  The goal of this assignment is to explain the most important lesson we should take from Zeitoun's experience as we think through future climate catastrophes.  Some questions that will be ask are, how does the book Zeitoun change the way we should think about future disasters? What do we learn from the text about how New Yorkers should prepare themselves personally, emotionally, and financially?  We see many examples of this throughout the book. From the beginning before the storm to see things Zeitoun and his family could have prevent things or prepare to to after math to learn from Zeitoun experience and mistakes.
     One example of this is in the beginning of the book when Kathy ask "You hear about the winds? It killed three in Florida so far" and Zeitoun just ignored his wife knowing the information about Hurricane Sandy was arriving (22).  We can compare this to the average citizen in New York because as a fellow New Yorker we are not use to natural disasters and can be stubborn in result ignoring very important signs.  This one passage in the book is a key element for the eassy because it open the door to so many things.

    Hi my name is James and I am writing a blog about the book "Zeitoun".  The story basically is about Zeitoun experience with Hurricane Katrina.  He stayed behind and throughout the part I'm up to in the book he feel he have a purpose within the crisis in New Orleans .  Many claims are being made about why he stayed but after going back and forth on twitter with the class and re-reading key passages on the book one reason i see he stayed is because of his personal beliefs.  He is living up to his his family name especially his brother because he is brave, strong and true (116). Other example are just him being helpful like when  him and a friend is trying to save a lady(100).   He thought of the story of Noah so maybe that why he save the animals also within the book (94).  In the end Zeitoun heart is in the right place and he is doing a good thing while you can disagree with his methods.

   Hi my name is James and I believe we were not ready for Sandy because of the many deaths and property damage.  Our response to the storm was negative for everyone!!! From the "Superstorm Sandy- a people's Shock?" shows that the poor and working-class people are far more vulnerable to a climate crisis.  One keyword that stood out to me was "vulnerable".   Using this keyword in the reading, the writer trying to say that the lower class people are easier to fall or be effected in certain disasters.  In result of Hurricane Sandy many people lost their lives, their was more unemployment rates and it seem the government and big companies are having there way with the city.  It seem the main people who took effect to this crisis was the poor and middle class people.  I find it scary  to know if I owned a mom-and-pop store and it get destroyed, a bigger store like Walmart would take is place.  No matter how much I would try and fight the bigger corporations would bully me out of whats mine.
