4/7/14

Hi my name is James and I believe we were not ready for Sandy because of the many deaths and property damage.  Our response to the storm was negative for everyone!!! From the "Superstorm Sandy- a people's Shock?" shows that the poor and working-class people are far more vulnerable to a climate crisis.  One keyword that stood out to me was "vulnerable".   Using this keyword in the reading, the writer trying to say that the lower class people are easier to fall or be effected in certain disasters.  In result of Hurricane Sandy many people lost their lives, their was more unemployment rates and it seem the government and big companies are having there way with the city.  It seem the main people who took effect to this crisis was the poor and middle class people.  I find it scary  to know if I owned a mom-and-pop store and it get destroyed, a bigger store like Walmart would take is place.  No matter how much I would try and fight the bigger corporations would bully me out of whats mine.

Hello my name is James Hull and I am currently reading the book "The Climate Casino" for my ENG 101 class.  I made this blog to inform you of two different graphs I saw in the book.  Figure 12 graph on page 62 and figure 10 graph on page 52. I thought these were two interesting and important graphs.
The graph on page 52 of "the Climate Casino" is a graph showing how stable the temperatures was in Greenland. I also notice within a few year the temperature increased dramatically. I like how Figure 10 graph show the climate results of Greenland  over the last 7,000 years. It showed how settled Greenland climate was and how it started change over the years. Figure 12 graph on page 62 is an illustration of a tipping point for Greenland Ice sheet. At first to me the graph was hard to understand because of the arrows, but I think the arrows is either a cycle of the ice sheets or the result of temperature change effect on the ice sheets. 3/24 class blog

Hello my name is James and today in my ENG 101 class we read each other essays and gave feedback to one another.  I actually like how it went, thought is was gonna be worse.  I'm always nervous about these things.  We have to write a letter to the mayor of NY about if we prepared for climate change or not.  My classmates told me that i had a good introduction and made it clear of what I'm writing about.  I may have trouble focusing on one topic at a time though but that is easy to fix.  So far so good on this essay. Good thing because it due in a week.  Also funny thing is I just now learn how to double space so I probably wrote more than expected but I'm not complaining.  I'm looking foward to handing in my paper.

2 in class blog of 3/24

Hello again its me James and I'm in my ENG 101 class.  A little while back we had to write our first blog on this article called "New York Is Lagging as sea and Risks Rise, Critics Warn". After looking over the article again i found some stuff to use for my first essay.
I don't believe New York City  is prepared for global warming one example is the flooding in 2011.  In their article Mireya Navarro state that the states and federal agencies should be investing in protection like sea gates that could close during a storm.   I don't agree with the idea of the writer, I can't picture any funding towards it.  NYC should prepare for disasters like flooding but a huge gate blocking everything I think will cause problems after the storm unless with this gate we can put up and take down easily.
